Lake City Flyers Post Falls to Spokane Ride 2014

September 15, 2014 Bicycle Adventures 6

Every year for the last three years our bicycle group the Lake City Flyers does an overnight bicycle trip from Post Falls Idaho to Spokane Washington. We usually try to time the ride to correspond with Spokfest. Note: We don’t actual ride in Spokfest, but it is fun to support it by checking out the vendors in Riverfront Park.

This year was no exception and so this was the 4th Annual Post Falls Idaho to Spokane Washington overnight ride.  This year we met at Nate’s New York Pizza and then made our way to Downtown Spokane.

It is a tradition that we stop at Cruiser’s at the Stateline. Now Cruiser’s is a biker bar and not the pedal and spoke kind. The motorcyclists are always great sports and I think they tolerate us because Tom and I are usually riding one of our vintage bicycles. You can literally ride your motorcycle through the middle of the bar and we always ride our bicycles through ringing our bicycle bells. This year we arrived earlier than we usually do so we only impressed about 5 people with our bell ringing. Always a fun time and great place for our first beer of the long ride!

Once we left Cruiser’s we didn’t stop again until we made it to the Spokane Valley where we stopped for donuts and milk at Krispy Kreme. Which is honestly the best thing to have when on a long bicycle ride. (If you don’t believe me…try it yourself…you will thank me!)

After our sugar and protein fix we made our way along the Centennial Trail with a few stops along the way for photo opps like these two at the Spokane Upriver Dam.

Since we were making such great time we arrived at No-Li before 3pm which gave us time to have a late lunch there and then stop at few other breweries before we made it back to our hotel room at the Oxford Suites in Downtown Spokane. (Our other stops were at Ramblin Road and Iron Goat.)

Before we had too many more beers we made it to our hotel room to get cleaned up and ready to go wander downtown. If you are ever in Spokaen I suggest finding somewhere to stay that is close to or in downtown. It is a lot of fun to explore on foot and when we do we often find something that we want to go back to!

This time around we had dinner at The Steelhead Grill (They have whiskey flights), martini’s at Bistango (Place is not very big, but has the BEST martini’s and Love it! ) and finally cocktails at O’Doherty’s (Irish pub where I of course had to top off the evening with Jameson) .

It was a nice relaxing fun night with friends and we even made it back to the room at a decent hour and were able to get up and enjoy the vendors at Spokfest without having a hang over.

This year Tom and I ended up making the trip back home alone as everyone broke off to go do other activities and make their way home on their own. It was a good ride with a stop at Krispy Kreme on the way and dinner at Nate’s Pizza before dragging our weary butts home.

Honestly I enjoy it so much I am already excited for next year and have some ideas for what we can do different! If you live in the area you should join us next year…just keep the first weekend in September free.
