Being a Bully is Not What You Should Do
Some days I really HATE the internet and particularly Facebook. Which for me is a big deal…my business runs because of the world wide web. It makes me sick though when someone, (thinking they are doing the right thing to support their cause, religion, personal beliefs, or whatever), proceeds to bully a person, business, or organization. Then solicit others to do the same.
If you haven’t looked it up lately, or aren’t quite sure what bullying is here you go:
use superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force him or her to do what one wants.
“a local man was bullied into helping them”
persecute, oppress, tyrannize, browbeat, harass, torment, intimidate, strong-arm, dominate; More informal push around, bullyrag
“the others bully him”
coerce, pressure, pressurize, press, push;
badger, goad, prod, browbeat, intimidate, dragoon, strong-arm;
informal bulldoze, railroad, lean on
“She was bullied into helping”
When you use tactics like mass messaging, leaving negative reviews, and use words like retribution, you’ll be sorry, there will be consequences. How do you think people will respond? I can tell you it won’t get you an invite to lunch.
Feeling threatened makes a lot of people burrow in, hold fast, and stop listening to you. Others become emotionally scarred to the point that it causes irreparable damage. In the end, you either do or don’t get what you want. But you have to ask yourself, was it worth it?
Did the process make you feel good or bad? Does hurting another human being make you proud? What exactly did you accomplish?
Standing up for what you believe can be done from a place of love. It happens when you state your case with non-threatening words (using facts), don’t get your friends/family/acquaintances to join you without a plan (because angry people can go sideways quick), and never forget to respect the person on the receiving end (even if they may not deserve it).
Most important, never tell the person they “must” do what you want or… “insert whatever here” That is a threat whether it is meant that way or not.
Ultimately, when I find myself wanting to lash out for whatever reason I stop myself and say… will this make the WORLD a better happier place to live? If the answer is no, then I move on to the things that will.
So, next time you are itching to pick a fight all I ask is; do it from a place of peace and respect. There is already enough hateful energy out there, we don’t need to add to it.
Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart. ~Unknown
